The Vancouver Xiaoping Chorus was honoured to accept an invitation from the Chinese Artists Society of Toronto (CAST) to perform at its Music and Performing Arts Festival Celebration Concert in Toronto. This marked the chorus's first performance outside Vancouver since its founding. Our singers joined several former members of the Toronto Xiaoping Chorus to present six classic choral works, making this tour both a rewarding musical achievement and an unforgettable experience.
The success was made possible by the dedication of our Founder and Artistic Director, Ms. Xiaoping Hu, whose leadership guided every stage of the project. We are also grateful to her many friends, former students, and musical colleagues in Toronto for their generous support and warm hospitality.
A tribute is due to Mr. Erhei Liang of CAST. He was not only instrumental in making this tour possible, but also conducted the CAST Philharmonic Orchestra in accompanying three of our choral selections. Despite having only one rehearsal together, the collaboration was seamless and resulted in an outstanding performance.

This memorable journey was the result of the efforts of many people. We sincerely thank all participating musicians, volunteers, and our chorus members' families for their support. Our appreciation also goes to Florence Zhang and Cindy Mah for their outstanding work in coordinating all aspects of the event. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Conductor Sharon Chu, pianist Bryan Wong, and every member of the Vancouver Xiaoping Chorus for their months of dedication, teamwork, and commitment to artistic excellence.
Following the concert, the chorus gathered at the home of Mr. Jimmy Sun to celebrate this memorable experience of music and friendship. During the celebration, our emcee, Emilie, reflected on the journey with a heartfelt speech that resonated with everyone present.
More than a successful performance, this tour celebrated the power of music and friendship. It stands as a milestone in the history of the Vancouver Xiaoping Chorus and inspires us to continue sharing the beauty of choral music wherever our journey may lead.

十位女中聲部團員代表合唱團來到 Vancouver Granville Gardens Retirement Residence,為長者們演唱兩首他們熟悉而喜愛的女聲小合唱 –《Cruising Down the River》與《The Sound of Music》。
On April 25, 2026, the Vancouver Xiaoping Chorus once again brought music into the community, offering a volunteer performance for seniors and sharing care through song. Ten choir members visited Vancouver Granville Gardens Retirement Residence and performed two beloved choral pieces – Cruising Down the River and The Sound of Music – bringing joy to the residents.
To present the choir at its best, the singers rehearsed with great dedication, carefully refining every detail. The performance was warmly received. Residents smiled and nodded along with the music. As the final notes faded, the room burst into applause. Many exclaimed, “Beautiful!” and “Very nice!” This community outreach performance brought seniors not only the companionship of music, but also the love and care conveyed through song.

On February 23, 2026, the Vancouver Xiaoping Chorus was invited to perform at the Kerrisdale Seniors Centre as part of a Lunar New Year outreach event, presenting a warm and joyful program for local seniors. The chorus performed several well-known Chinese and Western pieces, including Scarborough Fair, The Sound of Music (Choral Highlights), and Jasmine Flower. This event also marked the chorus’s first official community performance, reflecting its commitment to bringing music into the community and giving back through the arts.

The atmosphere was lively and festive. In addition to Chinese seniors, many non-Chinese attendees dressed in outfits with Chinese elements to join the celebration. The performers and audience interacted warmly throughout the program, and when the upbeat dance music began, many seniors – including several in their eighties – rose to their feet and joined the dancing. The event concluded with a joyful bilingual Chinese-English rendition of Gong Xi Gong Xi.

The Kerrisdale Seniors Centre presented the Xiaoping Chorus with a certificate of appreciation, praising the professional quality of the performance and the artistic enjoyment it brought to the community. Many seniors described it as “the best program” of their holiday celebration, warmly saying, “You guys must come again.”

During the Spring Festival, our chorus organized another spectacular performance. As our director aptly put it: "With members who love to perform, there’s never a shortage of excitement." From singing and dancing to playing instruments, choir members took turns in the spotlight, creating waves of laughter and joy. That deep-rooted passion for music, was fully released in a heartfelt celebration of New Year blessings.
